We were really looking forward to this one, having heard so much about it and it didn’t disappoint. The setting is absolutely stunning, looking out as it does at the majestic Galtee Mountains. The site is well laid out with a mix of hard and grass pitches and extensive camping area. It is spotlessly clean and the owners are super helpful. There is a well provisioned toilet and shower block, kitchen, laundry facilities and recreation room complete with table tennis table.
One thing to note. There are a range of lovely walks in the area but none of the looped routes advertised run past the campsite. We found we had to walk on the main roads part way no matter which one we chose which wasn’t ideal, although the locals are clearly used to it as there wasn’t a single car passed that didn’t wave!

So just back from our first Trip to the Glen of Aherlow Camping and Caravan site which of course came very highly rated by Charlie (and Aaron)..
Only need 2 words to describe this place.. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!! The site is immaculate, the views are something from a national geographic film, the welcome from George was like a proper Irish welcome..this place has to be visited to truly appreciate its beauty.
We arrived the Sunday of the May Bank Holiday weekend, and there were plenty of pitches in use, from Campers, Motorhome, Caravans and quite a few tenters, but still a good bit of space.
We were allocated pitch 29 which is at the rear of the facilities block, so had a somewhat blocked view of the Mountains but nonetheless still fantastic. And the weather was absolutely stunning for the 2 nights we stayed (you don’t often come to Tipperary and expect to leave with a tan). Facilities spotless, free showers, games and TV room, campers kitchen and laundry facilities available and a great on-site recycling centre recently added.
Pitches are level and the site are so quiet and serene, it’s just lovely to sit back and just listen to nature. Pitch with EHU €35 per night so pretty much on standard now a days..
Tipp town 15 mins drive away which has everything you need to stock up on the essentials, the Aherlow House Hotel is 25 mins walk up a slight hill, but very manageable for most, great outdoor seating areas there too overlooking the stunning views, there was a wedding fair there on the Monday and by god if you got the weather it would be amazing!
There was a little power glitch on the Bank Holiday Monday in the Facilities Block which meant the Hot Water Boilers & Pump and WiFi didn’t work for a short period of time, so some had problems with the showers but all resolved very quickly by George and back up and running in no time at all.
The only critique I have, and please everyone bear in mind this is a critique of the modern world is as you would except from a site in the middle of a valley surrounded by glorious mountains is don’t expect good phone/cellular coverage, there is free WiFi on the site, which is great in open areas but inside your units may not be as strong due to insulation etc. Now putting that aside, and really I mean it does not take away from the beauty of this site in anyway, I’m just conscious of those with smaller people who may not understand life before the Internet and not deal with it so well.. But you know what… turn off the devices for a while, get the books, colouring books and pens, board games, cards out and just enjoy what the Glen of Aherlow Camping and Camping site has to offer, we will be back, and we will stay longer.
It’s the perfect stop over on the way to the likes of Kerry and West Cork, but give yourself a couple of days here, especially if the weather is nice, you will not be disappointed I promise you!
