On arrival this site didn't look to inviting however it was a very good site.

Great location for the beech shops and entertainment all about a 7min walk at the end of the camp site.

We paid €27 for a unit, 2 adults, electric hook up and the car.

Its a very large park mostly filled with caravans but plenty of room for tents & motorhomes as well.

Worth a visit.

Strandhill, another family favourite.

The campsite:
Large site with sections for motorhomes and another for tents as well as hard pitches. Some nice secluded pitches for tents hidden around the park too.
€20 deposit required for the key/fob for access to toilets and through barriers at entrance. When checking in they'll direct you to your spot using the CCTV screens in reception.
Toilets old but cleaned regularly, motorhome service point and black waste disposal available. Showers good, need tokens.
Reception block has small games and TV room, internet access available.
Childrens playground just outside the entrance including zip line.

The area:
Sand dunes. The kids love it, they disappear for ages and come back when hungry.
For food, breakfast/lunch in Shells Cafe is a must do. Homemade ice cream and crepes etc in Ma Johnsons is perfect for the kids. Later have great pizza in the Strand Bar, where there is usually music on most weekend nights in season.
Surfing is a big draw here, surf school classes available. The beach is not safe for swimming though, but take the walk to Killaspugbrone ruined church (north along the beach, around the airport, one of the signposted walks) and just after this is a lovely beach which is safe.
If you are feeling fit, walk up Knocknarea to Queen Maeves Grave, there is a new walk lined/paved with railway sleepers which lead up, entrance across the road from the rugby club, and later recover in the Seaweed baths back down at the beach front.
On Sundays there is the Strandhill Peoples Market at the airport with a good number of stalls with locally produced goods/crafts, it's indoor too so great if the weather isn't the best.

We last stayed at the end of September 2019, think the cost was €32/night for motorhome, 2 adults, 3 children, 1 dog, EHU. They don't take bookings, so get there early for busy weekends.

stayed here last weekend ( thank god for the Indian summer :P ) its been about 5 years since we camped here and its safe to say not a lot has changed, including the pricing. pitches vary in size, and evenness, all with EHU and water stations are located throughout the site. i think we paid 104 euro for 5 adults with EHU which i thought was reasonable for 4 nites. ( the lad at the counter did knock a few bob off to be fair.) COVID regs were adhered to, even though the site was fairly full. all facilities were open with the usual restrictions. Showers were 5 mins for a euro or 10 mins for 2 euro. although the toilets and showers were spotless, they are in serious need of updating. as for the location, 2 mins from the seafront, and a 3 min walk from strandhill centre. always a firm favourite with us and we will visit again and again.
if it cant be fixed with a hammer, its an electrical fault......

Hoping to get a trip to Strandhill soon. I see they must have reduced the minimum time on site from 7 nights? Looking forward to a few nights there soon. :woohoo:

Had 3 nites here last weekend and safe to say in all my years camping here, not much has changed…. Which is probably why I like it here. To be fair they have resurfaced the drive up to the camp entrance.

The stay here for unit for the 3 nites, 4 adults and EHU was €114 but the lad at the reception rounded it down to €110.

the site was not full to capacity… but busy. All facilities were open with minor restrictions.

now, it had been commented on in previous reviews that the toilets and showers were clean but required updating, well it is about time that Sligo council revamped these facilities as they are now past their best before dates.

the main attraction of this site is its location. And the weather was kind to us.

tip… check out the market on Sunday mornings at the airport hangar… a ten minute walk…. It is excellent.
