If I can persuade the rest in the house to go - it might be the last trip of the year..!

Liam - it looks like this will now be a spring trip for us. No go at the moment.

Just stayed here recently over Easter. The big draw with this campsite is the location being a 10-15min walk into Cong along the main route or 25-30 mins along the scenic route through Ashford Castle and into Cong that way. It's absolutely beautiful there between the woods, ruined abbey and the monks fishing house. As for the campsite itself, while we received a warm welcome it did feel a little bit like camping in a large car park. It had been raining heavily so the grass was sodden anyway but it was a strange vibe. The facilities are quite dated. The campers kitchen is large but a bit industrial with fluorescent strip lights. Not somewhere you want to spend much time. The showers are pretty bad. It says it's one euro for 6 mins but as soon as you put the coin in the countdown starts at 5 mins. The angle of the shower is such that you have stand against a wall to wash properly and the changing room has nowhere to put your clothes, toiletries etc except the ground so inevitably it all ends up wet. They have a sitting room with a tv and a few board games but when we went up there there was a large group of visiting French students who were staying in the guesthouse and who had taken it over and pushed the couches back against the door to play a game so we couldn't get in. The weather was fairly miserable and we were in a small camper so this would have been nice to use. So overall, a handy place to stop to visit Cong but probably not for more than one night.
