Kilkenny impressed me so much last year that I had to give it a return visit this year (July 2021). My original plan was to visit at Easter but Covid put an end to that and as always, Dan being the absolute gentleman, moved my booking to whenever I wanted to visit. This site just doesn't disappoint. It is clean and tidy and all covid regulations were being adhered to.
I love the city and the fact that the site is so close to the city makes it a favourite. Really enjoyed my visit again this year and I will be back.

Took a one night break in Tree Grove Kilkenny this week (based on recommendations from the podcast and Charlie and Me) before heading to the Hub in Grauignamnagh for another 3 nights.

These opinions are just ours and should in no way deter others from visiting.

So Tree Grove (kilkennycamping.com) well it’s grand, that’ll about it, it’s just grand..

Quite a few caravans rather than motorhomes or campers when we stayed, a mix of hard and grass parking areas most with electric hook up points (although we were offered a spot on the top level which meant having to run a cable across a bit of the access road and also across where there was a good bit of footfall as it was close to the facilities block) so we declined and had the second option of a grass pitch over looking one of the horse paddocks, which was on a bit of a slope, nothing that levelling blocks  didn’t sort.

The facilities block is dated, but spotless and perfectly functional and showers are free as is the EHU, there a campers kitchen and a small games room, with free WiFi (didn’t try it out so don’t know the speed) but it was €38 for the night.

Location wise it’s very close to the city, a leisurely stroll into Kilkenny is about 25/30mins mostly along the canal and river pedestrian route, and there are all the bars, restaurants and shops you could ever want. The access to the river walk is not directly from the Campsite so it’s a short walk down a couple of busy roads, so do be careful especially on darker evenings.

There is quite a bit of road noise, which is ok, apart from the boys racers and overly loud motorcycles from time to time, but it’s close to the city so kind of expected.

For Visiting Kilkenny and all it has to offer, and it does have a lot, or even going to a gig or festival there Tree Grove is a great location but would imagine it will fill up quickly around those times.

There are now 8 glamping pods on the site, which given that Kilkenny is a popular spot for Hens and Stags might prove popular with the hens.

But the campsite is grand, nothing fancy, nothing special it’s grand, it works and is populated so again these are only our opinions and opinions vary and that’s the joy of such sites as this one.

We noticed that most of the units there were foreign or UK registrations so for those touring around and wanting to do the tourist things then it’s a good option.

We probably wouldn’t stay more than one night if we visited again, maybe use it as a stop over for a long trip somewhere else.

Down in the Hub now, with the ducks marching past on their way up for their lunch, won’t review this one again, but safe to say this is one of if not our number one sites (sorry caravanners)
