CCTV Systems for Motorhomes 7 months 1 week ago #1666

Hi all,

Do many of you have CCTV systems installed in your Motorhomes, Campervans or Caravans, more internally than externally.

I recently installed an Amazon Blink camera in our old wagon. Beauty of this is it’s battery powered so no running cables and it can be moved from the inside to outside if needed. It can be armed or disarmed as needed via the app.

We find it a bit of peace of mind if we leave the van to go for a bite to eat or a sneaky drink while away. It means we can also keep an eye our little Spaniel cross, Daisy if we have to leave her (we rarely ever do) to go get a few supplies in the shop.

it does require a sync module to be plugged in via USB and a constant WiFi signal but we don’t find this an issue as we have the sync module plugged into the solar panel control unit  which helps keep the battery charge cycling I think. The Mobile WiFi unit we have is also plugged into the solar unit.

We are lucky to have secure storage for the van when not in use, so the CCTV can be turned off when parked up but have left it running sometimes and no issues.

While we are now tending to use campsites which all seem to have excellent security systems and feel very very safe, we find it a nice option to have if we do go wild camping or
park in a stop over.

Just an option for those who might like to install a cost effective camera system. I think the 4 camera system is on Amazon for around €170-€200 but comes down on prime days too.

Hi ChateauDucatto97.....I don't currently, but I was seriously looking at different installation options in my caravan. Your post is therefore perfect timing for me as I am looking at it for the same reasons as you. Did you look at the Imou Rex Indoor Smart Security Camera by any chance? That's the one I'm looking at presently.

Hi Tourer,

Great timing indeed, I did actually look at the Rex indoor camera but for the shed at home (went with a Tapo camera there in the end)

It would be a great camera for your caravan if you always had power available, but the reason I chose the blink camera is its battery powered so can be left on anywhere, say if it was parked up for a while with no power. But still a good option for your unit.

i see Imou are doing solar and battery cameras too so that could be another option for you

Hi ChateauDucatto97, I have a 100-watt solar panel fixed to the roof and therefore should be able to power the camera with a constant feed. I haven't looked at it yet but I think I can get a feed to the camera easily enough. The fact that these cameras allow you to log in remotely via an app is excellent as you can always keep an eye on the little darlings if you have to skip out for a few minutes.

However, you do have me thinking now seriously about the battery options... as it is a caravan, I can't envisage many times I'd be leaving it unattended when not on site and needing to see inside it but then I wonder - can you check on it if travelling for instance? Can my co-pilot log onto the app to see that all is well as we are trundling along? I'm now starting to overthink it...lol

Yeah, definitely with the Blink system you can give access to anyone with the app and throw an eye on the caravan

im like you I don’t think I need it much when not in active use, but I can park it up when not used in work which is well covered with cameras.

im very much all about not having to drill holes in anything lol..

When we are parked up I do love the option of taking of the internal mount and sticking it on the external mount just to keep an eye on the habitation and drivers door.. wouldn’t leave it out when driving mind.. it would be gonzo for sure
