Stayed here for the 1st 5 nights of our 2 week holidays. This is another site run by Mid Ulster Council. Price for 5 nights, incl awning, EHU ( 16 amp) and showers £137. The site is in 2 sections, our section had about 10 hardstand pitches. They advertise it as fully serviced pitches, but this is not the case, with 2 water points available, although this was adequate.

The site is on the shore of the majestic Lough Neagh, and is very picturesque. BEWARE of Midgies!! There are some full time barges docked and their owners utilise the facilities of the camp site. Now, the facilities, not great. it is a purpose built building with showers, kitchen, laundry and toilets. The washing machine / Driers were £1 for 35 mins. The drier was not great, you would be quicker with a hair dryer!! The showers were large and plentiful, however, the water temp, which was not adjustable, was like molten lava!! I discovered after the 2nd day that the shower in the disabled toilets was adjustable, top tip!! another gripe, with the exception of the shower area, the toilet facilities were not cleaned on a regular basis, which was a let down. there was no disabled toilet/shower in the ladies shower area, only in the male area, makes no sense.

Ballyronan is a very pretty village, with a few great bars and a Mace shop. Maherafelt is a 15 minute drive for the usual mainstream grocery shops. as for things to do, we did a day trip to the Bushmills Distillery, ( 50 minute drive) and another trip to Giants Causeaway ( 55 min drive). and for Game of Thrones nerds, like ourselves, a visit to the Dark Hedges was a must ( google it!) Portrush was an hour away, with its amazing beach.

All in all a great site, and yes, despite the cleanliness issues, I'd go back. it is a dog and tent friendly site, and very secure. bring insect spray!!

if it cant be fixed with a hammer, its an electrical fault......
