I really was in two minds whether to recommend this site or not as it is such a hidden gem that we only discovered last weekend I wanted to keep it to myself. But in fairness it is too lovely a spot and has to be shared and recommended.
It is 3 mile walk into Newcastle - along the coast road, and is a family establishment run byTerry and Anne. Nearest pub and coffees shop is The Harbour Inn (2 miles).
We had booked on email for the one night last Saturday and wished we could have stayed longer. It i literally at the foothills of Millstone Hill rising up behind the site site, lovely woodland and rustic setting despite being so near town and the main Newcastle/Kilkeel road. Elevated and most gravel hardstand pitches have views of the sea beyond. Grass pitches for tents. Shower and WC facilities, CCTV and secure access control, usual waste and bins. Terry was a lovely man and couldn't be more helpful and welcoming. We will certainly return soon as it is such a great location to explore the Mourne Mountains and other areas of the wider peninsular. €20 for the night with EHU and free showers etc.
