A few years ago on this forum Beirnes came in for some bad reviews when around 8 or 10 forum members met here for a get together.. Within a year the then owner joined the forum to state what was said was totally unfounded..

However the points made were proven to be true and since then Bernies has made some improvements they even featured on an RTE TV show which helps businesses improve in order to stay afloat.

Some forum members have returned over the years and found with the exception of a new glamping and kids play area not much had changed..

We took a trip to Bernies on our World Tour Of Ireland and yet again we were bitterly dissapointed....

Firstly we were greeted by an automatic gate and a need to call some one twice to open it..

The sign on the gate said "register in the pub" we couldnt the pub dosent open till 8pm this was at 2pm...

After getting on site hooking up and settling in I went to check out one of the main problems all those years ago The Loo Block..

Nothing had changed there, they were a little
cleaner but the gents still had a smell however the ladies loo was clean. In saying that the builders were on site building what looked like new showers...

There is no shop on site, yet gas is available for purchase in the pub which as we said doesn't open till 8pm.

One of the reasons Mrs B wanted to stay here was to walk around the marina however like the glamping area this was strictly off limits to regular campers.

While the site advertise Gourmet Food Available it fails to mention that it is served on Weekends only.

We paid €24 for our night and it was NOT WORTH IT...

Beirnes seem to be more into their glamping tents and new camping pods and its sad to say the camp site is suffering.....

This is a beautiful location and has loads going for it but alas it has a long way to go....

So Charlie & Me took a trip back to Battlebridge to make a video for our You Tube channel...

I will keep this short.

I know alot of people LOVE this place and thats great but opinions varey ...

We stayed here for one night in November 2019 and we (Charlie & Me ) were charged €27 including hook up.

The bar opened at 12mid day and I had some lunch in at around 1ish you register in the bar off season.

The bar & food were nice the loo block (in MY opinion) hasnt changed much since we visited last there are some new showers thoe ...

Theres no fence at the fast moving river in the Motorhome/Tent only area this isnt safe...

This site is just NOT for me and €27 is outrages for a night in Novemeber.

All in all the site was clean it was busy the night we were there to but we wont be going back..

We've stayed here several times during the Summer in the past few years.

Nice site, beside the Shannon, great for kayak, fishing etc.

Pub on site, good food, BBQ on certain nights, music too, check Facebook for whats coming up, and opening times for food. Good atmosphere, it can get crowded as it's small, staff can be abrupt under pressure! There's a large covered outside seating area too.

Dedicated Campervan, Caravan and tent areas. Tent area can get very soggy if there's been a lot of rain, it's so close to the river, ring in advance and they'll let you know if it's ok or not.
Glamping pods are also available.

Kitchen is fine but the water does not get more than warm in the dishwashing sinks. Washers/dryers available.
Toilets fine, couple of Euro I think for showers, shower cubicles in the toilet section are very cramped, use the ones in the washer area instead.

WiFi is available in the bar.

Not cheap at €36 for 2 Adults 3 Children and EHU, no fee for dog :)

To do: Cycling/walking along the canal, all the way up to Drumshanbo, the Blueway Waterpark Aqua Obstacle park in the Lough Allen Hotel is great, a real favourinte of our kids.

15-20 minute walk into Leitrim for more pubs, bike hire, indoor activity centre (Archery, Airsoft).

We visited for our first time for St. Patrick’s weekend €60 for 2 nights Sat & Sun with EHU for 2 adults. We missed the music it was on Friday night, nothing on for Saturday or Sunday which was a bit disappointing. We ate in the pub both nights, it’s bit small and cramped but we made do especially on Saturday for the rugby. Food was ok nothing to excite the pallet with. With all the rain the site was very wet, just walked around the site as my torn tendon limits my walking ability.
Will be back again.
