EHU Sequence 3 months 3 weeks ago #1738

Sadly our auld bus failed its CVRT   so haven't been able to get away as much as planned.. good news though with a few repairs here and there (thanks to Trevor and the team at Tracey Commercials in Ballymount in Dublin) it's passed the test for another year

So while bored not being able to get out, I've been thinking, and maybe a silly question but might be of some use to new campervanners..

What is the preferred sequence of connecting to EHU on sites?

I'm a believer of connecting into the van first, then running the cable to the EHU, and the reverse when leaving the site, disconnecting the EHU, then the van.

My thinking is that your not dealing with live trailing connections, especially if the ground is wet or there's puddles etc and a risk of electrical shock, or tripping etc.

But interested in others opinions, is this a good method or is there a risk of tripping the van doing it my way?

(as I said I'm bored not being able to get out)

I always connect to the van first then the EHU and in reverse when disconnecting

Always, Always, Always in the order that you have said for the reasons that you have said, however, I would also add to completely unravel the cable as a tightly rolled cable is a serious fire hazard with the loads that we put through them to both motorhomes and caravans.

Delighted ChateauDucatto97 that the van has you travelling again.  Your reports are invaluable.

I always carry 2 different lengths of cable, the large one is on a reel and YES you must ALWAYS UNWIND to prevent overheating of the cable, the short cable Iis only 10m long so I wind it over my elbow like a coil, then your falls out when I am hooking up.

Couldn’t agree with you both enough, it’s a must to in-ravel the cable fully no matter how short or long, let the heat dissipate.. same applies to being at home, especially with the silly season approaching and the phenomenon of many Christmas lights.. thankfully they are a little more low voltage than older lights but same rules apply.. daisy chaining sockets chills me to the bones..
