Camping Gas Cylinders Disposal

Hi all,

Just wondering where you dispose of your small portable gas canisters, like the ones used in bbqs and heaters etc, not the larger ones for the campervan itself.

I tried our local recycling centre and they said they don’t take them, and to try the larger civic amenity sites, but they want €42 before allowing me into the site as I drive a small van..

I don’t want to put these in the general rubbish bin, or the recycling bin as it could cause major issues for the bin companies and their facilities, and I don’t want stock pile them on the house for the same reasons.

It may be just my local sites (Dublin) rules other than council sites countrywide.

Curious to what others do with them.

Thanks in advance.

Hi. I pierce the cans so the remaining gas can escape and then just put them in the recycling. Also with the recycling / civic amenity centres, they usually inspect your vehicle and check how much you have in it, as opposed to charging you the 42 euro flat fee. I brought my van recently with a few bits and was charged 8 euro
