Sterilising the fresh water tank, waste water tank 2 years 11 months ago #1355

I bought a motor home back in October, I’m working on getting it ready for March.i was going to drain down the fresh water tank but then thought I should sterilise it, so over to Charles Camping and they had a sterilant for me, they guy recommended draining down the tank refilling with fresh water, add the sterilant leave for 24 hours then drain down and flush with clean water.
My question is should I let the water drain into the grey water tank and let it sit for a further 24 hours to clean this tank ?
My next question is on the toilet cassette should I drain this out, there is no waste in it but it has the blue chemicals in it which I don’t want to use, I’ve bought the Eco friendly green liquid for the tank, would you flush out the existing blue liquid into my septic tank ? Or where could I get rid of it, I live just outside Naas in Co. Kildare.
Next question I bought the pink flushing liquid in CC, the guy there said there are no harmful chemicals in it and it’s safe to use with the Eco friendly green liquid ?.

Hi Can The Man.
Question 1. My question is should I let the water drain into the grey water tank and let it sit for a further 24 hours to clean this tank
There is no harm in doing that BUT I recommend that you fill the fresh water tank as advised flush it our AT LEAST two more times with fresh water after sterilising it.
The grey water tank get 3ltrs of the cheapest coke a cola in ALDI or one of them super stores pour it down each sink & the shower drain add a few ltrs of water from the taps and drive around for about 20mins sloshing the water in the tank then drain down a shore. That WILL clean out your tank.

Question 2. My next question is on the toilet cassette should I drain this out, there is no waste in it but it has the blue chemicals in it which I don’t want to use
Take put the cassette drain it down your loo at home then pour in some Dettol and boiling water slosh it around vigorously empty and done one clean cassette. I do thin about 2 or 3 times a year.

Finally Question 3. I bought the pink flushing liquid in CC, the guy there said there are no harmful chemicals in it and it’s safe to use with the Eco friendly green liquid
As far as I am aware GREEN is the only way to go just to be safe, My reasoning behind this is ... Clifden ECO Camping Park & The Getaway Motorhome Park will only let you dump you cassette if you use the GREEN only ...

I hope that information was helpful.

Do you mean it’s OK to use the pink flush or NOT OK, and only use the green in the cassette what do you use then for the flush ?, just plain water ?

thanks

I think the pink is just to fragrance for the loo water we have some and never use it .... so I'm not sure if its eco friendly or not ....

I agree with all of the above but under no circumstances be tempted to use Milton....!

It will seriously damage the inners of your plumbing system. The pink additive for the flush is only a fragranced liquid to help coat the bowl when flushing - no harmful chemicals in it - a lot of people now won't use it because if you don't flush it out at the end of your trip and leave it standing in the tank between trips - it will start to produce little black smudges that look awful in the bowl as you flush.
