So just as a summary taster, we covered just under 3000km in 2.5 weeks in September this year.  Delighted to be back on the continent again!  Irish Ferries overnight - Dublin to Cherbourg, then a drive to Chateaudun on the Loire for night #1.

Chateaudun Municipal - on the banks of the Loire - lovely site - great facilities and reception, ideal easy walk along the river and through the woods/fields/town to Chateaudun itself - Chateau, cathedral, grotto, town square for café and eateries.

#2 was at camping Huttopia in Clermont Ferrand - lovely drive - D/N roads most of the way and a lovely relax at the pool up in the mountains.  Sunday night meant bar and café on site was closed but local pizza delivered easily enough!  Beware  the sat nav. directions to the site!

Day 3 was the perfect drive and highlight to the Viaduc de Millau - a structure I had always wanted to visit. Stopped to explore and admire before heading on to Argeles Sur Mer on the med - 8 nights at Camping Les Criques de Porteils - didn't disappoint but not enough water taps around the site!  Terrific set up and facilities - lovely trail walks, the Pyrenees and the sea/mountains all around.

Journey home began with a drive over through Carcassonne and up into the Pyrenees to Lourdes - Camping de la Foret - easy walk in to the sights and restaurants/bars and lots of other attractions.  Night time owl activity in the forest was deafening but added to the tranquillity and serenity of the place.

From there we took the long drive over to Camping Le Tedey on the lake at Lacanau.  A place we have stayed at many a time and interesting to see the landscape become sand dunes and pine forest - freshwater lake - site now called Slow Village Lacanau.  Wil definitely return one day soon- a special place for sure right in the pine forest. and our pitch fronted directly onto the lake itself.

We then drove north up the coast (more sand dunes and pine forest) to Verdon sur Mer and took the short ferry over to Royan -and up to La Rochelle and turned left for Saint Martin de Re - delighted to secure the last spot on the municipal site with a short stroll into the lovely harbour port town of Saint Martin.

Sticking with islands we had a night then on Noirmoutier - another Huttopia site right o the beach - then sadly up to St Marlo - Camping de la Cite d'Alet - a lovely site overlooking the harbour itself and great atmosphere - stocked up on "shopping" for the return home the next day from Cherbourg. Picnic lunch on the way at a France Passion dairy farm and upgraded to a suite for the return crossing so relaxed in style overnight back to Dublin.

Lots of happy memories, sights and experiences  - cannot wait for June 2022....

Can highly recommend France - they just "get it" and is ideal for motorhomes.

Safe travels

A great review Tony, it certainly wets the appeitite for a 3-4 week trip. I must put it on a map to get a feel for the journey's. One of our mistakes is doing too much driving, trying to see as many locations as we can fit in....and then we get home flayed...!
