OK, so not going to as simple as 1st thought. Turns out the receiver in the van is locked to the Eurostat (?) satellite, and requires a PIN number to override the pre set satellite, which of course I dont have. So I've ordered a new satellite receiver box, €40, with stations pre loaded. I'll update when we get delivery and take it for a test...... its all fun and games!
if it cant be fixed with a hammer, its an electrical fault......

Hi Liam,

The pin might be 0000 or 1111.  Usually, these boxes are left with the engineers' code as default.

tried 0000, 1111, 9999, 1234 all to no avail, seems the van had a conscientious owner along the way.....

Final-ish update…. Got an Irish decoder and still no joy. Contacted the box supplier and was advised that it’s a dish issue as the van is from mainland Europe it’s set up (zone 2) for euro reception only. Ireland and uk are zone 1, different size dish etc.

so the plan going forward is to purchase an Irish dish and tripod so we can use it freestanding as some caravanners do, cost about €80 for dish and tripod. Everyday is a school day!

Ok so a simple fix in the end. After much frustration got the van to the lads at SatWorld, behind McDonald’s Naas Rd, Kylemore. They Assessed the dish and deemed it appropriate. I had purchased a new decoder pre loaded with freeview stations. A very helpful lad from SatWorld then guided me through the dish alignment process and hey presto! We are up and running with all the relevant freebies stations ( not saorview). Delighted with that! Brought the van back home and again tried a solo alignment and took all of 3 minutes to find the relevant satellite….. Can’t recommend the lads at SatWorld enough!
